The Deserted House
Ananda Gopal Garai
Oh no! nobody lives there!
The house is deserted.
Only the sparrows twitter,
The night owls hoot,
The cockroaches have made it
Their safe abode!
The neighbors still hear the lament
Of the Old Rich Man, 'oh! stab me not'.
They robbed him of his jewells
They robbed him of his life, too.
When the midnight stars
Raise their heads and look upon
The dreamy shades---
A spirit cries in fear---
'Oh! stab me not, stab me not
Please let me live, let me live. '
