 The Hollow Echo of War

             Prabir Basak

In halls of power, whispers ignite,

A spark of greed, ambition’s blight.

Borders drawn with sharpened blade,

Where peace once stood, shadows invade.

Voices of reason drown in cries,

Of conquest’s lust, deceitful lies.

Steel-clad tongues in fiery speech,

Turn brother’s hand to foe’s cold reach.

The cannons roar, the earth trembles deep,

Innocence lost where blood rivers seep.

Flames kiss the skies in a crimson glow,

Cities crumble under war’s savage show.

Children weep in silent screams,

Torn from the cradle of fragile dreams.

Ashen winds carry the toll,

Of shattered hearts, broken souls.

The banners wave in a hollow cheer,

As mankind’s heart succumbs to fear.

The fields of valour rot with decay,

Where once stood men, now ghosts in grey.

Humanity’s pulse grows faint and slow,

Under the weight of grief and woe.

Can conquest’s crown, forged in strife,

Resurrect the deadened breath of life?

Is war the torch that lights the way,

Or does it burn our hope away?
